Craig Abolt is a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, College of Engineering, Civil/Structural. Prior to owning Abolt Construction, Craig worked as a structural engineer in a design firm in St. Louis. As an engineer his responsibilities included design, detail, and analyzing concrete, prestressed concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and fiberglass structures. Some projects that may be of interest include the design of a roller coaster ride for Sesame Place in Langhorn, Pennsylvania, and structural design for MasterCard International Facilities in O'Fallon, Missouri, and design of a reinforced concrete structure housing the surgery wing at Fayette County (Illinois) Hospital, and several reinforced concrete parking facilities.
Since his father started the Company, Craig grew up in the construction business. He began working as a laborer at a very young age. While growing up he worked most weekends, holidays, and summers in the construction business. He progressed through the following trades: laborer, cement finisher, heavy equipment operator, apprentice bricklayer, and bricklayer. He also trained apprentice bricklayers and served as superintendent on large jobs. Craig has managed a number of construction projects including: a concrete containment system for the tank farm at E. I. DuPont de Nemours, acid brick floor repair for The Dial Corporation, and refractory repair at Roquette America, The Dial Corporation, E. I. DuPont, Climax Molybdenum, BFC Gas, and Monsanto.
Craig's responsibilities encompass all elements of construction including design, estimating, preparing proposals, project management as well as maintaining relationships with new and existing customers. Craig is a member of International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Fort Madison Chamber of Commerce.
Abolt Construction, Inc., based in Fort Madison, Iowa, is a contractor with focus on industrial and commercial contracting with over 35 years of service to the Southeast Iowa and Western Illinois communities.
In 1974, after 15 years as a bricklayer, Stan Abolt founded the Company as a masonry construction company; in 1978 we added concrete work. Stan helped the company build a reputation for quality work; repeat business from industrial customers helped our growth. In 2000, Craig Abolt purchased the Company from his father. Craig had been employed in St. Louis as a structural engineer for a consulting engineering firm; a natural growth was to add structural design service to the company's offerings. His vision for the company is to build upon our strengths and expand into larger commercial and industrial jobs.
Craig has a day-to-day, hands-on approach with all of our projects. Our unique experience is evident in all of our projects which include consulting, industrial expansion projects, commercial expansions, parking structures, parking lots, refractory inspection and repair, masonry, acid brick, floor brick, and historic restoration. Under Craig's leadership, the Company now performs masonry, concrete, structural steel, carpentry, industrial coatings, and trucking.
It is our feeling that in recent years basic business ethics and morality have been replaced by single-minded quest for corporate profits. We are definitely in business to be profitable, however, not to the point that we compromise our personal ethics and honor. We believe that by offering our clients a quality service, for an honest fee and a modest profit, we will insure our longevity as a company.
